14-Year-Old Cruz Skinner Racing Against the Big Boys at Boyd Speedway
East Ridge,TN-(WDEF) When the green flag drops on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Racing Series Friday night at the Boyd Speedway, a 14-year-old will be in the field.
Cruz Skinner from Oxford, Alabama, will be racing along side the big boys.
With a name like Cruz Skinner, he sounds like a racer.
The teenager has over 300 career victories dating back to his go-cart days.
Skinner says he first competed against adults when he was ten, and he admits fellow drivers sometimes do a double-take when they see him hop in the race car.
Said Skinner-“I do get some funny looks. A lot of people are really excited to see people as young as me out there racing with the all the adults and doing well. Ever since I started racing go-carts my dad kind of fed me to the dogs. He has always raced me up. Like when I was seven-years-old in go-cart, I was racing 12 and 15-year-olds. He was always pushing me to get better and better. And because of that, I am the driver that I am today.”
