18-wheeler hit by incoming train near downtown Dalton

DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) — A train hit an 18-wheeler Wednesday morning when it got stuck on railroad tracks in Dalton.

The tractor trailer was at the Hawthorne Street railroad crossing near downtown.

The crash happened just after 7:00 a.m.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

The truck driver told police he was from Texas and wasn’t familiar with the area, plus didn’t see the warning sign on the road. Large trucks are prohibited from driving on Hawthorne Street due to the steep angle of the approach to the tracks. This makes it impossible to cross without getting stuck.

He was able to get out of the truck before the train hit it. The crash left the cab on the west side of the tracks and the trailer destroyed on the east side.
