2 juveniles arrested for setting Sevier County fires

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) The District Attorney for Sevier County has announced the arrest of two juveniles for setting the wildfires that burned Gatlinburg.

They face aggravated arson charges, for now.

But the D.A. could ask for them to be tried as adults.

Officials cannot release much on the young suspects, but they did say the pair are not from Sevier County.

But they are Tennessee residents.

Park officials thanked the public for the tips they gave on the case.

Just minutes after opening a tipline, they got 40 leads.

Officials cannot say whether any of those tips led to the arrests, but they did say the public’s assistance was critical to solving the case.

The suspects are now in custody at a juvenile facility.

Their next court step will be a hearing to determine if they will be released on bond.
