National Child Passenger Safety Week Underway
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Buckle up. Sunday kicks off National Child Passenger Safety Week.
And there’s no better way to take advantage of it than by making sure your child is strapped in safely.
That’s the message the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office wants to send parents.
Deputies say in Hamilton County alone, 85 to 90 percent of car seats for children are installed incorrectly.
Captain Charles Lowery, Jr. says installation is more complicated than it looks.
“There is so much technical things as far as a car seat is concerned – the construction of the car seat, whether or not the car seat has been recalled,” Lowery said. “A lot of people never check to see whether it’s been recalled.”
Lowery also says he does not recommend that parents buy used car seats.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office also hosts child passenger safety checkpoints every Tuesday in various locations.
