October Declared Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Hamilton Co.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Valley wants to put a stop to domestic violence.
That’s why both Chattanooga and Hamilton County leaders created a joint proclamation Friday, officially making October Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Experts say about one in four women, and one in seven men are victims.
“We want to bring awareness to the community because we do believe there’s probably a lot of unreported incidents to occur,” said Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger. “We want to encourage people to step up and come forward if you have been a victim.”
A domestic violence survivor also shared her inspiring story at the event.
