Deputies: woman confessed to setting fires in barns to keep warm

FORT PAYNE, Alabama (WDEF) – A woman told authorities she was just trying to keep warm when she set a fire at a barn that got out of control.

And then she did it again.

Two weeks ago, firefighters on Sand Mountain got the call about the barn fires near Geraldine.

A caller reported seeing an unknown female walking around the area.

Brittany Paige YorkDeKalb County deputies found 27 year old Brittany Paige York from Rainsville.

They say she admitted to setting a fire inside the first barn just to keep warm.

But it got out of control.

They say she then went further down the road to another barn, and the same thing happened again.

They have charged her with arson.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said“I am so thankful for the Geraldine Fire Department for containing the barn fires and preventing what could have been a much worse scenario.”
