60 people displaced by apartment fires in last two weeks

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga Firefighter officials say the fire last night at the Waterford was just the latest in a spree of local apartment fires.

17 people were displaced in last night’s fire.

But fire officials say almost 60 people have lost their homes in three different fires during this year’s holiday season.

A Dayton Boulevard fire on November 30th put out 25 people.

Plus another fire on the same day displaced 15 people at the Rustic Village Apartments.

All three fires were accidental.

The Waterford Apartment fire began with food being left on a stove, the Dayton Boulevard fire was started by someone falling asleep while smoking and the Rustic Village fire began with electrical wiring.

The Chattanooga Fire Department says all three cases show the importance of getting renters insurance.

The Red Cross has found shelter and provided food for victims of all three fires.
