90 year old celebrates birthday by skydiving
JASPER, Tennessee (WDEF)-Irene Hammontree, from Dalton, celebrated turning 90 this weekend by visiting the Chattanooga skydiving company.
“Whenever you start on the free fall, I want you to throw your hands out and yell real loud. I said I’m afraid too, I’m afraid I’ll lose my teeth,” said Hammontree.
Her family says she’s been talking about this for a while now, and they weren’t sure if it was just talk or if it was actually going to happen.
“I don’t know, she’s been talking about it for two years, doing this, and I thought it was just talk.”
“I don’t think she was actually gonna do it. We’ve talked about this for, like, the past year and then she decided all right we’re actually gonna do this,” said Kynlie Massey.
Well, the big day came and she went for it.
“I loved it. I don’t know why I ever thought I would ever do something like that but it was wonderful. ,” said Hammontree.
She was joined by some of her family and her son.
“I’ll admit, I was nervous. Very nervous, but I’m glad I did it.”
Plus her granddaughter.
“I backed out like an hour or two before the game. Then I got here and she was like no you’re jumping. Your 90-year-old grandmother tells you going to jump out of a plane with her you’re going to jump out of playing with her,” said massey.
After touching the ground, she knew it was the experience of a life time…
But she doesn’t think a once in a life time experience.
“When I get 100 I’ll be back.
