Love Gives Wheels

Wesley Odum, Dynamic Church Pastor said, "That’s what this thing is about. Its blessing others." Blessing children in need this Christmas with the gift of a bicycle is the goal of "Love Gives Wheels." It’s a 36 hour bike drive going on at Walmart off Gunbarrel Road.

Odum said, "This is our third year of Love Gives Wheels. The first year we did this we raised 150 bikes and we did that for 24 hours. Last year even through the rain and cold, we did 5-hundred and it was the last minute we got there." So this year, the program set the goal right back to 5-hundred. Odum will stand on a forklift overlooking the parking and advises shoppers on how they can participate. Odum said, "The bikes are located right by the registers, so you can purchase a bike and drop it at the tent here. You can donate online at lovegiveswheels.com as well. Every donation goes directly towards providing bikes or stop by and make a cash donation."

Meeting the goal allows the Salvation Army to provide a bike for every child that requests one through the Angel Tree Program. Kimberly George, Salvation Army Director of Marketing said, "I don’t know about you, but my favorite memory is my bicycle under the tree. It was purple. White basket. Streamers. I can still remember it. And so many, probably that are watching can remember that first bike. So we want to create those types of lasting memories with the children on the angel tree."

The drive will continue until 5pm Saturday, December 6th.
