Sunday Alcohol Sales Begin in Walker County
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — There’s a new big business push for Walker County.
Today is the first time stores can start selling alcohol on Sundays.
This comes after voters approved two ballot measures addressing alcohol sales in November.
Now, restaurants can sell alcohol by the drink on Sundays between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Grocery and convenience stores can sell beer and wine on Sundays from 12:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Some business owners say they’re excited about the change, and believe it will bring in more customers.
“We’ve had several people come in right when we opened at noon today, and got their beer with their pizza. It’s just as exciting to pour. I haven’t been able to pour beer on Sundays, so it’s been fun,” said Jennifer McSpadden, owner of Pie Slingers Pizzeria.
“Because of us looking at issues like this, we do already have a couple of businesses that have started exploring opportunities in Walker County, so even if nothing comes of that, at least now we’re in the game. Businesses are starting to look at Walker County again,” said Joe Legge, Walker County government.
McSpadden says they’re looking to potentially expand their menu and even store hours because of this new change.
