Reported carjacking leads to police chase in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – An 18-year old man and two juveniles are in trouble after an alleged carjacking turned into a police chase through the streets of Chattanooga.

Hollis Malone, 18, of Chattanooga was arrested Sunday morning and charged with one count of carjacking and one count of criminal conspiracy.

According to the arrest affidavit, Malone; a 15-year old boy and another unidentified male held a man at gunpoint while they stole his car and his cell phone.

The incident reportedly occurred Saturday night in the 1100 block of Arlington Avenue.

The victim told police that he noticed a female friend standing in the road so he stopped to talk to her. While he was stopped, the victim said three armed males ran up to his vehicle and forced him to get out.

When police arrived on scene they put out a BOLO for the stolen vehicle.

Hours later, police spotted the vehicle in the College Hills Courts Housing Development. According to the arrest affidavit, three people including two males and one female were inside the car.

When officers attempted to pull the trio over, the vehicle reportedly sped off and led multiple law enforcement agencies on a lengthy pursuit through Chattanooga.

Police say the vehicle eventually stopped and all three people inside were taken into custody.

According to the arrest affidavit, the driver of the stolen vehicle was a juvenile female who reportedly told officers she was asked by Malone and the 15-year old to drive them to Hixson. She then told police that when a squad car got behind their vehicle, Malone and the 15-year old told her to take-off because the vehicle was stolen. The juvenile female also told police the two males threatened her if she stopped.

According to the juvenile female, Malone and the 15-year old male are both gang members who are known to carry handguns.

The 15-year old later told police that he and Hollis were involved in the carjacking.

Malone remains in jail on a 70,000 bond.

His next court date is scheduled for January 6.
