UTC Forward Ramon Vila is Mocs Mr. Nice Guy
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Mocs forward Ramon Vila of Spain looks like the ‘Barcelona Bruiser’ at 6’8, 240-pounds. But in reality, the big fella puts the ‘Chatt’ in Chattanooga because he’s always ready to chat up anyone, even when he goes to Wal Mart.
Meet Roman Vila. The Mocs Mr. Nice guy.
Said head coach Lamont Paris:”One of the friendliest people I’ve been around. He’s happy go-lucky. He loves life.”
Reporter:”How would you describe Ramon’s personality?”
Said guard Jonathan Scott:”Enthusiastic. Energized. Happy.”
Reporter:”We have a phrase in the U.S. called life of the party. Do you think that would describe you a little bit?”
Said Vila:”Definitely. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely.”
Vila is a fan of scary movies, and sometimes Coach Paris wishes Vila would turn into a bad man on the court.
Said Paris:”He’s such a nice guy. I can’t say that enough. You know there are probably sometimes I wish we would lock him in a cage with a bear and sees who comes otu ot there.”
Sometimes Vila plays like a bear with the way he claws for points in the paint. He’s averaging 11 points a contest.
Said Paris:”Those baskets will never get old. Getting those the garbage baskets. I think it’s invaluable for our success to be able to have someone down there like Ramon that can be an effective scorer around the basket.”
And it’s invaluable to have a teammate like Vila.
Said Vila:”Sometimes when practice gets a little hard and people are just like a little tired. I try to cheer them up. Like come on. Just twenty minutes left. Do whatever you can. Do you your best. Yeah, I’m always helping my teammates that’s for sure.”
Said Scott:”I don’t know is I should say this. (chuckles) on TV. ‘Grande Guapo’ is my nickname for him.”
Reporter:”What does that mean?”
Said Scott:”Big sexy.”(laughs)
