2 arrested after stealing vehicle, running from police
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County officers arrested two people for stealing a vehicle and evading police on Friday.
They arrested 18-year-old Allen Collins and a juvenile, who was not named, according to the HCSO.
Shortly before 1 a.m., a deputy witnessed a stolen vehicle at the intersection of Lightfoot Mill and Bonny Oaks Drive. The HCSO described the vehicle as a blue Hyundai Sonata.
The deputy tried to stop the car, but the suspects fled.
The Hamilton County officer pursued the vehicle, which reached speeds of 110 mph in a 40 mph zone. The sheriff’s office said the suspect car passed others in oncoming traffic lanes.
“The suspect vehicle showed total disregard for the safety of other motorists including failing to stop for traffic control devices and stop signs,” HCSO said.
According to the charges, the juvenile was driving the vehicle.
The pursuit went through Jersey Pike, Shallowford Road, Tunnel Boulevard and Brainerd Road. The suspects finally stopped and ran on foot near 270 Elmwood Drive.
The car rolled backwards down the driveway and struck the patrol car, causing minor damage.
Hamilton County officers called in a drone unit and soon located the suspects. Chattanooga Police assisted as well.
The sheriff’s office charged Collins with evading arrest and theft of property.
They charged the juvenile with theft of property, driving without a license, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, failure to stop for stop sign, speeding and traffic control device.
Deputies transported Collins to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center. They also transported the juvenile to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.
