CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — In support of Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Week, Chattanooga Firefighters are raising funds with the Fill the Boot Campaign.

The Fill the Boot campaign for MDA was originally supposed to start on April 27. But they cancelled it for Thursday due to the weather.

Firefighters will be in the Chattanooga area still scheduled to be collecting donations this Friday and Saturday.

In 2022, the fire department’s fundraiser accumulated more than $33,000.

Firefighters have been helping to collect MDA raise funds for 69 years.

These donations “ensure that effective treatments and therapies are found for neuromuscular diseases,” the CFD said.

They added that every dollar in the boot contributes to life-changing progress for MDA families.

The FDA has approved 19 drugs or treatments to slow the progression of neuromuscular diseases recently.

MDA allows kids aged 8 to 17 to attend an in-person summer camp of their choice, at no cost to families. They offer virtual options as well.

The association also helps families receive the best quality care from doctors across the country.
