Mocs Coach Russ Huesman Ready to See Two of His Players Compete at the NFL Combine
Chattanooga-(WDEF) On Sunday, Mocs football players Davis Tull and Derrick Lott will get a chance to shine at the NFL combine.
For an FCS program like Chattanooga to have two guys at the combine is a pretty big deal.
And Mocs head coach Russ Huesman will be watching.
Coach Huesman is really not surprised to see two of his players invited to the combine, given how many NFL eyes were on the Mocs workouts last fall.
"It was amazing this year the number of NFL guys at practice. Every team came and some teams came two to three times."
So what did the NFL guys tell Huesman that they liked about Davis Tull and Derrick Lott.
"Starting with Davis, I think they love his motor and his athletic ability. I think he’s going to surprise people. If he’s healthy, I guarantee you he’s going to raise some eyebrows at the combine. With Derrick, he has incredible athletic ability for a 300-pound guy. Big body. Can run."
For FCS players like Tull and Lott, the combine can really bolster their image.
"I think if Davis runs a good time or Derrick runs a good time, we’ll probably have 25 NFL teams out here on their pro day."
Terrell Owens is Chattanooga’s most famous NFL alum.
The Mocs make it a point to celebrate their former players in the NFL by posting their pictures on the wall outside of the UTC coaches offices.
"It’s nice when we can say TO played here or Buster Skrine. I don’t think there’s a question having guys in the combine helps us. Having guys in the NFL helps us in recruiting process."
