McMinn Regional Humane Society releases urgent dog adoption list

ATHENS, Tenn. (WDEF) – The McMinn Regional Humane Society has released a new SOS adoption list as the shelter continues to struggle with overcrowding.

Due to an overwhelming number of dumped stray animals, law enforcement drop offs, and scheduled owner surrenders, the shelter is operating at maximum capacity.

The six dogs on the SOS list must be adopted by Monday at 2 p.m.

The adoption center will be closed Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5, for the holiday weekend, giving potential adopters a limited window to help.

Board member Autumn Lowery is encouraging anyone who is struggling to care for their pet to reach out to the humane society before surrendering the animal, as staff may be able to provide resources or assistance to help keep pets in their homes.
