1 year after church fire, arsonist still not caught

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Saturday marks one year since a Chattanooga landmark was heavily damaged by fire. Investigators still have not caught the arsonist in this case.

On June 10, 2022, a massive fire damaged the Phillps Chapel and Chauncey-Goode Auditorium. The church building was part of former Highland Park Baptist Church and Tennessee Temple University. It is now part of the Redemption to the Nations Church campus.

It took responders 24 hours to completely get the fire under control.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire.

The fire department is asking for your help in identifying a man who was in the area at the time of the fire.

They received an influx of tips following the fire, but none led to any arrests.

Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for any tips that lead to an arrest.
