ShowerUp launches this weekend

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A Nashville-based nonprofit organization is providing mobile showers and personal care this weekend to those in need.

ShowerUp is establishing a full-time permanent mobile shower outreach in Chattanooga.

The nonprofit will work with other nonprofits and churches to serve the unhoused community.

Each person who would like a shower will be provided with clean toiletry items.

“People are going to say, ‘you know what, tomorrow’s a new day and I can get some help for this addiction that I have,'” said Paul Schmitz Executive Director and Co-Founder of ShowerUp. “Or maybe it’s, ‘I can reconnect with some of the family and friends and why thought that bridge was burned, maybe I can reestablish contact.’ We think ShowerUp provides hope.”

ShowerUp is free to the public.

A soft launch will be Saturday, June 24, at Faith Family Church at 2505 E. 43rd Street, from 10 a.m. until noon.

The official launch day will be Sunday, June 25, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the city’s sanctioned camp at 12th Street and Peeples Street.
