TVA Strategizing For Future Weather Events

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- It has been six months since a historic cold snap caused issues across the Tennessee Valley.

On December 23, 2022, temperatures plummeted to single digits and even below zero across the area.

One of the main issues caused by the cold snap was rolling blackouts requested by TVA.

This was due to extreme power demand through Christmas Weekend.

The agency says in the six months since that extreme event, they have made changes to better combat future extreme weather events.

Scott Fielder, a media representative for TVA, said, “Since the winter, we have done 200 actions to improve our system and in addition, we are building 38-hundred megawatts of additional generation to make sure we are ready to power the future.”

Fielder added that our region is growing at six times the national average and that T-V-A is looking at how to continue to support that growth.
