CHI Memorial offers mobile lung cancer screenings

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — CHI Memorial and TVFCU have teamed up in an effort to save lives by early detection of lung cancer. To do so, CHI will soon be offering mobile lung cancer screenings.

CHI’s Breathe Easy Lung Coach will be stationed in the parking lot of TVFCU’s Southside branch. The location is 125 West 20th Street in Chattanooga.

The mobile screenings will take place this Thursday, July 13, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The organizations request that those interested call and schedule an appointment in advance. To schedule an appointment, call 423-495-5864.

CHI Memorial will use low-dosage CT lung screenings on patients that participate.

But the screenings can do more than detect lung cancer.

According to CHI Memorial’s Dr. Rob Headrick, the screenings will show the entire chest, including heart and coronary arteries. This will allow doctors to do a risk assessment of cardiovascular disease as well.

The screenings will be low-cost if it is covered by your insurance. If not, they allow a self-pay option of $150 for anyone over the age of 40.

If you attend, don’t forget an insurance card and photo ID.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, according to the American Cancer Society. They add that it kills more people than colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. In addition, they say people often show no symptoms.
