CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Authorities revealed new information involving a homicide shooting that occurred last month. Chattanooga Police have now arrested two men in that incident.
The police department said they arrested 24-year-old Roderick Fairbanks and 19-year-old Li’Terrius Beasley.
Both men face charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
An affidavit obtained from Hamilton County identifies the man killed in the shooting as Cordell Young.
Police arrested Fairbanks on Thursday and arrested Beasley on Friday.
A detective found 17 empty 9mm shell casings in the road at the scene of the shooting.
Video surveillance allowed officers to determine the details of the shooting. They state that both suspects got into a “disorder” with the victims, left the scene and returned later. When they returned, the suspects parked at Olivet Baptist Church.
The two lured the victims into an intersection, police said. They added that Fairbanks was the driver and Beasley was the shooter. “A witness also advised hearing Mr. Fairbanks telling him to shoot,” the affidavit explained.
Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene in a white car. Additionally, the affidavit states another person was with Fairbanks and Beasley at the time of the incident.
Originally, CPD officers found one man at the scene with injuries, Young, who later died at Erlanger Hospital. The other man, who was shot, drove himself to the hospital as well, but his injuries were not life threatening.
The shootings happened just after midnight on June 30, at the intersection of East 10th Street and Peeples Street.
Beasley admits to being at the scene but denies shooting anyone.
