Sound of Freedom: saving children from trafficking
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — ‘Sound of Freedom’ is a film based the true story of a U.S. federal agent who quits his job in devotion to saving children from human trafficking. Film creators have developed a pay it forward program, allowing guests to get free tickets, or purchase tickets for others.
‘Sound of Freedom’ hit theaters on July 4 and topped the charts on that day. It grossed $14 million on opening day, surpassing ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ and Disney’s ‘Elemental.’ To date, the film has grossed more than $85 million.
The movie was made five years ago, according to lead actor Jim Caviezel. But he says they faced countless roadblocks in the process of getting it released to the public.
Now, Angel Studios wants to be sure anyone has access to the film and its deep messages.

‘Sound of Freedom’ focuses on Tim Ballard, a former CIA and Homeland Security agent whose job was to arrest human traffickers. Ballard quit his job to pursue the goal of actually saving those children. Ballard and his team rescued more than 50 children during one raid in Columbia.
But he didn’t stop there. Ballard created the ‘Operation Underground Railroad.’ Since its inception in 2013, the organization has helped make over 6,500 arrests and been involved in over 4,000 operations.
“We go to the darkest corners of the world to assist in rescuing children from slavery and ensure ongoing aftercare,” their website states. The organization’s goal is to rescue children from sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.
In 2014, CBS News reported on Ballard’s mission. The CBS article makes mention of several aspects of the ‘Sound of Freedom’ film.
“In the United States, an estimated 460,000 children are reported missing every year,” according to the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
