Middle School basketball coach indicted on charges of stealing from his team’s fundraisers

CLARKSVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – A Middle School basketball coach has been indicted on charges of stealing money from fundraisers for his team.

The indictment follows an investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office into allegations at Montgomery Central Middle in Clarksville.

The investigating found that Coach David Lemont Bryant misappropriated at least $988 from a gear fundraiser and a t-shirt fundraiser last fall for the boys’s basketball team.

The coach was put on leave a month later and fired in November.

A Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted him last month on a county of theft of property.

“School officials should ensure staff maintain collection logs and issue receipts when accepting payments,” said Comptroller Mumpower. “It’s also important to follow policy and state law requiring deposit within three days of receipt, and to ensure all fundraisers are properly approved before they begin.”
