Chattanooga Zoo hosts Frog Watch

Knowing about the frog population in an area is very important.  They are an indicator species, and their presence or lack thereof can say a lot about the environment.

Tennessee has 21 species of frog, and 17 of them can be found in Chattanooga.  In the past, the program has helped to find frogs that weren’t in the area.

"green tree frog used to not be around this area he used to be more southern but now their population has moved up northern so they are now found here in Chattanooga" said Zoo Keeper Ryan Witmer

The program is a great way for anyone to be a conservationist without having to travel across the country, because you can do it right in your own backyard.
