Free COVID-19 test kits now available again

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Beginning yesterday, every U.S. household can order up to four free COVID-19 rapid tests to be delivered straight to your home.

Last week, the Biden administration announced using $600 million to produce updated COVID-19 rapid test kits. The administration also announced that they would be free to order up to four kits per household. The administration aims to prevent test shortages amid a rise in COVID-19 cases as the weather gets colder.

Rapid test kits that are expired are still good to use. The Food and Drug Administration extended the dates of expiration.

The tests are rapid antigen at-home tests. They are not PCR tests.

Results will be provided within 30 minutes. It can be used with COVID-19 symptoms or not, and it can be used regardless of being up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations.

To order a rapid test kit, go to COVIDTests.gov or call 1-800-232-0233.

The tests will continue to be available to uninsured individuals and underserved communities through outreach programs. Contact a HRSA health center, Test to Treat site, or a ICATT location to access low or no-cost COVID-19 tests that are provided by the U.S. government.
