TDOT to implement I-24 traffic shift this weekend

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) crews will implement a traffic shift on I-24 this weekend. This will be part of Phase 2 of the I-75/I-24 interchange widening.

This shift will allow crews to construct new bridges at South Moore Road and McBrien Road, over I-24.

TDOT will implement nightly lane closures starting on Sunday, October 1. The closures will happen between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. between Germantown Road and Spring Creek Road. This will continue for about a week, according to TDOT.

Construction crews will narrow the three existing 12-foot lanes to 11-foot lanes.

They will construct retaining walls and other bridge features at South Moore Road and McBrien Road bridges. They will also start constructing additional lanes on I-24 and noise walls.

“It should take the contractor about a week to fully implement this traffic shift. Once in place, traffic will remain in this pattern for about a year and three lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times,” TDOT said.

Additionally, all work is dependent on the weather.

TDOT is asking drivers to reduce speeds in these areas.
