Chattanooga Housing Authority presented One Westside survey to city council

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – City Council demanded a survey and the Chattanooga Housing Authority delivered.

Jenny Hill the Vice Chair said, “Thank you housing authority for listening. You guys have done a lot of work on this and I for one really appreciate it so thank you.”

The Chattanooga Housing Authority asked four new questions to 387 participants.

“As a result of that we were able to achieve 70 households that responded in Gateway Towers and 317 households that responded in College Hill Courts,” Carmen Chubb, president of Columbia Residential said.

They asked, “once construction is finished in the Westside, do you want to live in a new apartment here in the westside?”

“80% of the residents in Gateway Tower would like to come back and make sure they have an opportunity to live in the new housing. And that number is 82% for College Hill Courts,” said Chubb.

Another question was, “do you want to live in the Westside during construction?”

Chubb said, “In Gateway Tower we found that 54 households, or 77%, wanted to remain on site during construction, and for College Hill Courts that number is 47%. So, it is 149 households.”

Next, they asked, “where would you like to live during the construction of Westside?”

“But for where a preference was specified, it was for the housing choice voucher and then right behind that either on a CHA owned property or a voucher,” said Chubb.

And lastly, they asked, “are you interested in working on a pathway to homeownership?”

Chubb said, “Overwhelmingly in College Hill Courts we found 65% of the people who responded are interested in home ownership opportunities. At Gateway Tower that number was 12%”

These results will be used to create a game plan for construction.
