New canoe ramp open at Camp Jordan

All you need to know before diving in

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.– Camp Jordan has welcomed a new canoe launch ramp today thanks to the efforts of local non-profits and community organizations.

The city of East Ridge, alongside the civic groups Tennessee American Water and WaterWay, have funded a new access point to the Chickamauga Creek.

This investment was made to encourage more outdoor recreation in the community, along with better stewardship of the natural environment.

Chickamauga creek houses several endangered species, including the Southern Pigtoe and the Eastern Hellbender, meaning that conservation efforts are critical to those funding the project.

“We have several endangered species that live in the south Chickamauga Creek that I think are worth protecting,” says Waterway’s director of operations Brooke Fleeman.

“The more people we [can] get to know these habitats, these areas that are public and can be used, hopefully, we can raise awareness about how special this watershed is and how we can all do our part to improve water quality and to keep this as a resource for the future to come.”

Starting today, the launch point is open to all Chattanooga residents looking for a fun day out on the water.
