CBS Ready to Dub Big Dance “The Kentucky Invitational”
CBS and WDEF News 12 will once again televise the NCAA Tournament staring on Thursday.
Network analysts recently gathered to offer their insights on the Big Dance, or as they’re calling it this year, the Kentucky Invitational.
Said CBS announcer Jim Nantz,"Biggest story line going into the NCAA Tournament is Kentucky. Could we have the first undefeated team since 1976 in Indiana? It’s a big task, but they’re capable of doing it."
And why are the Cats capable of doing it? They’re size for one. If you put Kentucky in the NBA, they would be right there as the tallest team in the NBA.
Said CBS analyst Bill Raftery,"Sometimes teams are deep, but they’re all smaller guys. What do they have like seven or eight kids 6’8 or better. They’ve got four 6’10 or better. And their guards are 6’6. They’re good."
In other words, good luck beating Kentucky.
Said CBS analyst Clark Kellogg,"You’ve got to be able to compete on the glass. I don’t think you can get mugged on the glass and think you are going to beat them. You’ve got to be able to stay in range on the backboards, and you’ve got to do it for 40 minutes."
But leave it to the one and only Charles Barkley who is not picking Kentucky.
"I’m picking Arizona to win the tournament. I think Kentucky is very good. Maybe I’m bias because I live in Arizona, but the best team I saw this year was Arizona. Kentucky. If you can keep them off the offensive boards and make them make some shots, that’s going to be the key. Can you keep them off the boards. I think Arizona is big enough to keep them off the boards."
While Kentucky is the heavy favorite, Cats coach John Calipari is still cautious.
"In my opinion, I have the best team and the best players. Now that doesn’t mean you win. This isn’t best-of-five or best-of-seven. It’s one game. One game. One day. You’ve got to play."
