Chattanooga woman raped while babysitting: Suspect in custody

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – A Chattanooga man is facing one count of rape after the alleged victim told police he sexually assaulted her while she was babysitting children.

Carvonta Petty, 27, was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon after the victim identified him as the suspect.

The crime reportedly happened on Monday in an apartment building in the 100 block of Hollyberry Lane.

According to the arrest affidavit, the victim told police that Petty came over to the residence where she was babysitting children. While the children were taking a nap, Petty reportedly locked the front door then proceeded to force himself on her.

According to the arrest affidavit, both the victim and the person who rents the apartment knew Petty which made it easy for police to track him down.

Evidence collected form the home will be used in the cased against Petty.

A neighbor told WDEF that Petty was a familiar face on the property. 

His bond was set at $125,000.
