Chattanooga Fire Department: Hazmat situation in Brainerd is false alarm

UPDATE:

Chattanooga Firefighters say there is no actual hazard at Eastgate Mall in Brainerd.

First responders arrived at the scene just before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday after a woman passed out.

An employee was handling mail at the Tennessee Department of Human Services and the Children’s Services Department, according to CFD.

She passed out after taking envelopes out of a drop box. After regaining consciousness, she said her hands were tingling.

The woman was taken to the hospital for further treatment, and first responders evacuated the building.

However, CFD said hazmat crews tested all of the mail in the drop box and found no hazards.

News 12 was on scene and says all crews were leaving the area as of 7:15 p.m.
