Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke Kicks Off US DOT’s Mayors’ Challenge for Safer People & Safer Streets

(WDEF) Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke kicked off the U-S Department of Transportation Mayors’ Challenge for Safer People and Safer Streets Monday.
     He joined Police Chief Fred Fletcher, members of the Chattanooga Department of Transportation, Outdoor Chattanooga and bicycle and pedestrian advocates.
     Officials say the plan involves input from the community.
     So people who want to help can be put on an action team after they sign a pledge.
     Blythe Bailey serves as the Administrator for Chattanooga DOT.  He said, "We’re working on a sidewalk action plan, we’re working on a bike implementation plan, we’re working on a number of infrastructure projects that are going to improve safety and improve traffic for everybody."
     Officials expect the projects to take roughly one year.
