Commission Continues Rivermont Gym Funding Freeze

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Hamilton County Commission voted to continue a funding freeze to Hamilton County Schools this morning.

This freeze affects one point five million dollars of ARPA funding that had been previously allocated to H-C-S for construction of a new gym at Rivermont Elementary School.

This comes as debate continues to grow over how and where new schools in the Red Bank and Hixson areas should be built.

The Commission agreed they should withhold funding until a clear plan is presented to them.

Jeff Eversole, the Hamilton County Commissioner for District 10, said, “I just hope that when we get to the point to where decisions are being made this body is included into the discussion instead of watching it on the news and reading it in the paper because that is not a good way of deciding children’s education.”

This is on the heels of an announced Red Bank school plan on Tuesday and Hamilton County’s response to that plan.

Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp’s office says they are not commenting on the Red Bank proposal at this time.
