Homeless man arrested for stealing box of driver’s licenses

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga police arrested a homeless man on Wednesday for stealing from the Homeless Health Care Center/CHATT Foundation in Chattanooga.

The homeless center on East 11th Street reported a theft, and officers responded at around 5 p.m.

Then on the same street, police found 33-year-old Isaac Christopher Jordan sleeping on the sidewalk.

An affidavit explains that officers took Jordan into custody for setting up bedding on public property where there is signage prohibiting it. They held him on charges of critical infrastructure vandalism.

Then they searched his bag.

In his bag, officers said they found a box containing more than 100 identification cards. Those included 110 driver’s licenses, 22 insurance cards, 12 credit and debit cards, two COVID-19 vaccination cards, three access cards, one being to Erlanger Hospital, and seven other identification cards.

The affidavit says Jordan refused to tell officers where he got the box.

The homeless center told police they normally keep that box behind their desk, and it recently went missing.

Authorities are now charging Jordan with theft of property, in addition to his other charges.
