Penguins Nest

Chattanooga TN (WDEF) – Crowds gathered to watch about 200lbs of "Magic Rocks’ being dropped of in the Tennessee Aquarium’s Penguin Exhibit today. Gentoo and Macaroni Penguins move these rocks to create nests and start breeding.
Penguin keepers will gradually add more and more rocks, and by the time breeding season is well on its way, the penguins will have about 800lbs of rocks in their nests.
"It’s going to take them about two to three weeks before we see the first eggs and then it will be forty days of incubation roughly, ten weeks of the chicks living in the nest and then they’ll leave the nest on their own," said Loribeth Lee, a daily penguin keeper.
The exhibit has room for about 14 chicks a year, but Aquarium staff say they expect to see about five chicks this season.
