EPA provides Chattanooga with $56 million for lead cleanup

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga leaders gathered at the Southside Chattanooga lead site to highlight their cleanup process on Monday.

The Southside lead site is considered the largest residential lead site in the region.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently provided the city with $56 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly is hopeful of this cleanup project making neighborhoods safer.

“This additional $56 million is a huge shot in the arm as we try to make Chattanooga a cleaner and greener city. That is our vision for the future,” Mayor Kelly said.

As of January 2024, more than 800 lead properties have been cleaned up.
