Alabama teacher charged with having sexual relations with student

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WDEF) — A DeKalb County substitute teacher has been arrested for engaging in sexual relations with a student, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said they received a complaint about a substitute teacher possibly having “inappropriate relations” with a student.

After investigating, the sheriff’s office arrested 45-year-old Stephanie Mechelle Woods of Henagar.

DeKalb authorities have charged her with school employee engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19.

She is now being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center.

“I would like to thank our Investigations Unit and the Board of Education for their earnestness in getting this case taken care of. Our children have every right to feel safe at school, and parents have every right to expect it. Our children are our number 1 priority, and we will protect them at all costs,” said DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden.
