Songbirds debuts new location for Tennessee Songwriters Week

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Songbirds Guitar and Pop Culture Museum hosted its first event on Tuesday after moving into a new location.

They left their previous location on Station Street to relocate to 206 West Main Street. The old location officially closed its doors in December 2023.

On February 20, Songbirds hosted the Tennessee Songwriters Week Showcase. It began at 6 p.m. and lasts until approximately 8:30.

This event featured qualifying round winners from Chattanooga and Southeast Tennessee. Tuesday night winners will move on to Nashville.

Songbirds says their new location features a full commercial kitchen, two bars, exhibit space and an outdoor patio.

They plan to continue hosting private events, concerts and rotating music history exhibits.

“The decision to move was a difficult one. We have been an anchor on Station Street from the very beginning. I mean, when we began work on the Songbirds museum in 2015 the street was just a dirt alley,” said Executive Director Reed Caldwell. “We have come a long way and helped bring life to the road and the Southside neighborhood. I am proud of what our team has accomplished. That said, it is time for us to move on. The new space on Main Street is already the coolest hidden spot in town, and we can’t wait to share it with the public!”

Songbirds is a nonprofit with all funds going toward their Guitars for Kids project.

While they are still moving into this new location, they have big plans.

That includes two more events in the coming weeks, plus a grand opening near the end of March.

Caldwell explains that the biggest reason for the move was accessibility. Unlike their last location, Songbirds is now on the ground level with street access. This makes it easier for guests to find and enter the space.
