TVA to reopen campgrounds, visitor centers soon

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — TVA campgrounds and visitor centers will reopen for the season in the coming weeks.

TVA campgrounds will open on March 15 and remain open until November 15.

Staff will additionally return to visitor centers on April 6. TVA said staff will answer questions and detail firsthand experience to guests.

TVA has eight dams with visitor centers. These highlight the history of TVA and provide information on how the site serves the community.

The Raccoon Mountain dam is located west of Chattanooga, near U.S. Highway 64/72. It will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Laurel Point recreation area at Raccoon Mountain is open year-round. “The center’s overlook offers a spectacular view of a narrow gorge on the river,” TVA added.

Other dams opening on April 6 include Norris Dam, Kentucky Dam and Fontana Dam.

TVA has more than 80 public recreation areas, which also include day-use areas and boat ramps.

Visitors stayed 45,000 nights at TVA’s six developed campgrounds, TVA officials said.
