Arrest made in early morning Marion County shooting

This morning at around 1:30 am central time the Marion County Sheriffs Office received a call to report a home invasion on Jones Point Rd.

When officers arrived at the residence, they found a 52 year old man dead inside the home.  He had been shot.  Officers said it appeared that he had been shot in the head by the homeowner.   "It was pretty bad.  I don’t really know how to describe it.  Any scene like that is bad, but it just wasn’t a pretty site," said Sheriff Burrnett.

The  12th District Attorney General requested TBI agents to assist in the investigation.  They are working alongside investigators from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

"They are doing their thing doing alot of leg work and interviews and things, and we are working with them.  They are the lead agency, but we are working with them."

The joint investigation yielded a quick arrest.  Authorities have charged 58 year old Phillip Clements with one count of Criminal Homicide.

The circumstances and the motivation for the crime  remain under investigation.

The body has been sent to the TBI Crime lab in Nashville for an autopsy, and Clements is currently being held in the Marion County Jail without bond.
