TVA to implement weekend lane closures at Thrasher Bridge
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Valley Authority will start summer maintenance on the Thrasher Bridge at the Chickamauga Dam this weekend. As a result, there will be lane closures on Highway 153 in this area.
The lane closures will occur from 7 p.m. Friday evening until 6 a.m. Monday morning every weekend. TVA said it chose this timing to minimize disruptions to work traffic.
Drivers on Highway 153 at the dam should expect delays during these hours.
The roadwork will begin this Friday, May 31. TVA expects the work to be completed by July 29.
“TVA maintains its bridges to the highest standard and this work is a necessary part of protecting public safety and maintaining the critical infrastructure we rely on each day,” the company stated.
In addition, TVA does not plan to implement any lane closures during Independence Day weekend (July 5-7).
Crews may have to extend or reschedule this work if there is inclement weather. TVA will notify the public of any schedule changes.
According to TVA, the company conducts about 45 bridge inspections each year in compliance with the Federal Highway Administration.
