13-year-old charged with fleeing from police in stolen car

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A 13-year-old is being charged with stealing a car and evading police, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

An automatic license plate reader alerted Collegedale Police to a stolen white Kia on Thursday. HCSO said the car was stolen out of Chattanooga.

Law enforcement searched for the car and found it on Standifer Gap Road. They then tried to stop the Kia, but the driver fled.

Deputies pursued the car down I-75 south and into Catoosa County, Georgia.

The sheriff’s office took four juveniles into custody and said the driver was only 13. Additionally, HCSO said one of the occupants has an upcoming court hearing for a previous charge of vehicle theft.

HCSO released all four juveniles to their parents at the scene.

They now face charges for theft over $10,000. The driver is also charged with felony evading.

The sheriff’s office did not identify any of the suspects due to them being under 18.
