Man who tried to cross Lee Highway dies after being hit by car

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A person died after being struck by a vehicle on Lee Highway Monday night, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1.

Police said the 52-year-old man died at the hospital from life-threatening injuries he sustained in the crash.

A Chevrolet Suburban was driving south on Lee Highway when the man tried to cross the road. That was when the vehicle hit the pedestrian, according to police.

They added that the driver stayed on scene after the incident.

Chattanooga Police continue to investigate the incident. They have not stated whether any charges will be filed against the driver.

No one involved has been identified.
