ArtsBuild unveils voter guide for upcoming elections
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- As we approach Hamilton County’s general elections, one non-profit is highlighting candidates’ stances on funding for the arts.
Artsbuild has released a voter’s guide.
The arts advocacy group sent out questionnaires to candidates discussing this topic.
Multiple candidates responded including both mayoral candidates, Mayor Weston Wamp and Mark Herndon.
Artsbuild impact coordinator Christina Sacco says that the purpose of the guide is to demonstrate that arts funding is a non-partisan issue.
She says that funding the arts is important both economically and as a part of the community’s identity.
Sacco said, “These answers are all heartfelt because some identify as an artist, because there are certain types of arts that they use maybe for expression. Maybe it’s for therapy or other reasons so we love seeing that because it does reinforce that whole idea of supporting the arts is truly non-partisan.”
The county elections will be on August 6.
