Memorial ceremony to honor Fallen Five on ninth anniversary
News 12 This Morning: Retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief, Tommy Mitchell joins News 12’s Chip Chapman to preview the annual memorial ceremony held to honor Chattanooga’s Fallen Five. Mitchell will be speaking at the program as the chairman for the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Tuesday marks nine years since five service members lost their lives in Chattanooga.
On July 16, 2015, these men died due to an act of domestic terrorism: Sergeant Carson Allen Louis Holmquist (USMC), Logistics Specialist Second Class Randall Scott Smith (NAVY), Staff Sergeant David Allen Wyatt (USMC), Lance Corporal Squire Kimpton Paul “Skip” Wells (USMC), and Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Joseph Sullivan (USMC).
They are remembered as the Fallen Five.
An annual memorial ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with military salutes.
The program will be held in the Tennessee Riverpark at the Wreath of Honor.
U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy personnel will place wreaths at the Five Pillars of the Wreath of Honor.
Remarks are expected to be made by Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly, Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp, Hamilton County Commission Chairman Jeff Eversole, and CAVC President Tommy Mitchell.
Melissa Bayless will sing the National Anthem.
Retired U.S. Navy Captain, Mickey McCamish, will emcee the program. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support our fallen veterans.
