One injured in Hixson residential fire

HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) —  One person was injured in a house fire in Hixson today.

The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) was dispatched to the 2400 block of Sunset Strip Street at 11:46 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the residence full of smoke.

CFD reported a dresser on fire in the bedroom.

Firefighters acted quickly to extinguish the flames.

One individual was injured during the fire, receiving burns to their face and smoke inhalation.

Investigators reported the fire was started due to the victim smoking while on oxygen.

The oxygen tank was ignited along with the dresser next to it.

CFD stresses there is no safe way to smoke around home oxygen.
