GPS breaks ground on new athletic field house project

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) It’s a big day on campus at Girls Preparatory School as plans move forward for a brand-new athletic field house, a project designed to expand training, wellness, and student spaces across campus.

School leaders say the facility will give students more room to train, compete, and grow, while also strengthening the school’s long-term commitment to athletics and student development.

Head of School Megan Cover says the new building will include a wide range of upgraded spaces built for student-athletes.

“So it will be temperature controlled with four inside tennis courts. It will have locker rooms for our field sports and locker rooms for tennis teams. It will have a cardio and fitness center. It will have a strength and recovery room. It’ll have a multipurpose classroom for teams to go in there and meet before games, watch film, can be there otherwise, and there’s going to be a general space for girls to come and really enjoy the lower campus,” Cover said.

School leaders say the goal is to create a space that supports both performance and wellness for every student.

“This is the first step in a multi-level plan to really enhance our programs and our people and our spaces. And this field house really will serve every single girl because we believe in serving each girl in mind, body, and spirit. And so this is a commitment to every girl and young woman who is here and who will be coming to campus in the future,” Cover added.

The project is part of a broader campus investment initiative and reflects the school’s focus on expanding opportunities for students both on and off the field.

The new field house is expected to open in spring 2027.
