Former Tennessee State Trooper charged with rape & misconduct

SEQUATCHIE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A former Tennessee State Trooper has been arrested for rape after the TBI conducted an investigation.

The 12th Judicial District Attorney General, Courtney Lynch, requested TBI special agents to investigate a complaint about a state trooper.

TBI reported the complaint being “a trooper had a frequent contact with an individual involved in prostitution”.

The individual involved had several warrants from “various jurisdictions”.

During the investigation, TBI agents gathered information that former Trooper Brenton Wiegand was involved with a female from September 2023 to April 2024.

The TBI also reported this all took place while Wiegand was in uniform and in his state vehicle.

Wiegand was arrested and transported to the Sequatchie County Jail for processing September 24, 2024.

He is being charged with one count of Aggravated Rape and one count of Official Misconduct.

Wiegand is no longer employed with Tennessee Highway Patrol, and his bond will be posted September 30, 2024.
