Something spooky comes this way at the Tennessee Aquarium
Tennessee Aquarium’s Alison Pryor joins News 12’s Amelia Greer to talk about all the spook-tacular events coming to the aquarium this ODD-tober.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Tennessee Aquarium kicks off the spooky season with a slate full of events for ODDtober with the introduction of a new exhibit featuring some creepy crawlies.
The Tennessee Aquarium’s ODDtober is their “month long celebration of the weird and wonderful side of nature,” according to their press release.
Kicking off ODDtober, the Tennessee Aquarium begins their annual underwater pumpkin carving show. Visitors will get to witness scuba divers in their charming costumes as they carve pumpkins. While the activity sounds easy, it’s a challenging task as pumpkins can float, and the divers will need weights to make their spooky creations.
On Wednesday, October 2 at 11 A.M. EST, the aquarium will host a livestream of the season’s first carving which can be seen on their Facebook page.
The underwater pumpkin carving demonstration will continue every Saturday of ODDtober at 2 P.M. EST.
Throughout the aquarium, guests will get to enjoy viewing horror movie inspired posters of their favorite frightening creatures which include a catfish, snapping turtle, and their newest animal, the superworm.
Real life creepy crawlies are entering the aquarium with the introduction of the Superworm exhibit. While the sight of them may make some feel queasy, they are actually one of the most helpful critters in our environment. The superworm has a super power to eat through polystyrene foam which is a form of plastic. Visitors will get to view them in action this month.
The celebration of ODDtober concludes with their annual Aquascarium on October 25. The ticketed event takes visitors through the aquarium after hours to be amazed by mermaids, leaping lemurs, and be on the look out for pirates. The event allows visitors to dress up and go trick-or-treating around the Tennessee Aquarium.
Their IMAX theatre is filled with exciting films this month. Three documentaries are playing each day. Joker: Folie a Deux, the sequel to 2019’s Joker, will be premiering on their IMAX screen starting October 3.
