Cirque du Soleil Brings Dazzling Extravaganza to Chattanooga

Cirque du Soleil’s dazzling show has made its way to Chattanooga, and News 12 had the chance to go behind the scenes to see what makes this show so extraordinary.

“What you can expect is a little bit of everything. We mix a lot of high-level acrobats; we’ve got a seven-piece band with a singer, and we have two Olympians in the show, along with beautiful and colorful handmade costumes,” said Janie Mallet, Senior Publicist for Cirque du Soleil.

OVO, which means “egg” in Portuguese, is a vibrant celebration of the insect world, featuring breathtaking acrobatics and stunning visuals. Performer Jessie Harris who plays an ant in the show shares that being in this show has always been a dream of his, and he expresses his love for performing every night.

“To have the energy of the audience is really a unique feeling, like when you go out and do the thing that you love the most. Seeing the reaction of the audience—it’s a really nice feeling,” said Jessie.

What’s a beautiful show without some show-stopping costumes? Over 800 costumes are carefully crafted to represent various insects—from butterflies to beetles. The bright colors and detailed patterns highlight the beauty and diversity of nature.

“Everything is handmade and tailored for each artist, so what they do in the show—whether it’s an acrobatic act that needs to be lighter, or someone like a Chinese pole performer who needs to slide down a pole and have extra padding—everything is thought out and designed for each person,” said Mallet.
